Day 79 (8/10): Today was a great day of travel. I slept in this morning again and headed out late in the morning. The terrain today went from rolling mountains around me to high rocky mountain peaks.
I came across some freezing cold mountain lakes that had spectacular views.
It rained for most of the afternoon so the clouds were low and the mountain peaks were covered with cloud cover.
I got to see 3 black bears today but did not get to get a picture of any of them. The first one was foraging right next to the road but do to track I was unable to stop and get a picture it was a younger bear as it was small. The second bear I saw on the side of the road but as I came to a stop it darted into the woods. The third bear was the largest and was crossing the road but entered the woods before I got the camera out. That makes five bears total for this trip four in British Columbia and one in Montana. I found a camping location in the later afternoon. It is right next to a mountain lake with a wonderful view.
Day 80 (8/11): I headed out this morning in a cloudy rainy day. Once again the clouds were low and covering the mountain tops which made it hard to get a good picture and with the rain main traveling slower on the worn out paved roads. I only traveled for a few hours today and stopped early due to being tired and the weather was just tiring.
I got a great campsite on the edge of a lake again it was nice cooking and eating my food right on the edge of the lake.
Day 81 (8/12): Today I woke up earlier then I have been and hit the road and put some good miles behind me. I drove away from the mountains for a while and went into rolling hills then shortly before lunch time as I got onto the Alaskan Highway I could see the mountains off in the distance again.
For the rest of the afternoon I drove between the mountains as I entered the Yukon.
In the early afternoon the clouds of came rolling in again and rain for the remainder of the afternoon and all evening and stopped just before dark around 10pm. Tomorrow I get to drive though the city of Whitehorse in the Yukon.
Day 82 (8/13): I slept in this morning since I could not fall asleep last night. These late sunsets are screwing me up. The sun does not go down until after 11pm now and is only getting later as I head farther north. The day consisted of driving around high rocky mountain peaks.
I headed into the town of Whitehorse and it was kind of disappointing even though I did not know what to expect. I tried to update my website for 3 hours but the internet was way too slow so I gave up for then. I continued on down the road and found a great campsite on another lake.
Day 83 (8/14): I made it to Haynes today and what a view it was the whole way here.
Everywhere I went there were mountains with slow on them. I could not stop for all the pictures.
I had to cross the border to make it to Haynes. While crossing I had to loose my firewood. I also lost all my chicken. It was sad to throw away the money on the food. I then came across this large almost dry river bed. I did not see any bears fishing but I guess this is one of the good spots to see them and eagles.
I then decided to wash laundry as I was running out of clean clothes. After doing that all early afternoon I moved onto the state park to find a camping spot for the night the following picture just a short walk away. Tomorrow I’m headed to the tourist part of the town. Next is to backtrack into the Yukon.
Day 84 (8/15): I left the bay I entered the day before and backtracked back into Canada in the morning. I caught so good views as I was leaving.
By noon I was on some new roads and terrain. I got some more spectacular views of the mountains surrounding me.
I then came across Kluane Lake which is the largest lake in the Yukon. It had spectacular clear water.
Further down the lake I saw this natural divide in the water where the siltier water from the river flowed into the lake and there was a natural divide of the color of the water.
Here are some more mountain views.
I then finally found this great campsite and grab one of the stops along this stream.
Day 85 (8/16): Today was a short day of traveling. I woke up late since I stayed up to see if the northern lights were going to show up. They did not. After sleeping in I headed down the road and crossed the border after a few hours of driving after crossing the border for a short while till I found a good camp site around noon. After setting up camp I changed the oil, oil filter and cleaned the air filter and greased up the bearings and shackles on my trailer. Here are some shots of the lake near my camp site.
The whole time I was in camp these little guys were flying all around.
I was sitting around a campfire when I noticed these two swimming around.
I heard this guy hit his tail also to grab my attention. I guess it wanted its picture taken.
This is my favorite view of the day.
